Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., has been offered the role of National Security Advisor in President-elect Donald Trump’s forthcoming administration, a source confirmed to Fox News Digital. Waltz, a prominent Trump surrogate during the 2024 campaign, played a key role in Trump’s military outreach efforts and led the Veterans For Trump coalition.

As the first retired Green Beret to serve in Congress, Waltz brings a unique background to the role. His extensive military and policy experience includes previous service as an advisor to former Defense Secretaries Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates, a factor that reportedly made him an appealing candidate for the position.

Throughout the 2024 campaign, Waltz supported Trump’s hardline approach to national security and veterans’ issues, emphasizing the need for a strong U.S. military presence on the global stage and advocating for increased support to American service members and their families. He has also been a vocal critic of the current administration’s foreign policy, particularly on issues related to military spending, China, and defense infrastructure.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the offer, and Trump’s team has yet to make an official announcement, but insiders suggest that Waltz’s leadership and military perspective could add a dynamic layer to Trump’s National Security Council. His close alignment with Trump’s policy positions has drawn support from many within the administration and among Trump’s allies in Congress.

If he accepts, Waltz would be among the first appointments in a Cabinet shaping up to reflect Trump’s “America First” ethos, with a focus on strengthening national security and reinforcing U.S. influence on the global stage.
