Renowned filmmaker and political commentator Michael Moore made headlines this week with a bold prediction about the 2024 presidential election, stating he is “optimistic” that Vice President Kamala Harris will take the White House and that former President Donald Trump is “toast.” In an interview with MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin on Sunday, Moore, known for accurately forecasting Trump’s 2016 victory, expressed confidence that Trump’s political career is nearing its end.

“I don’t think they realized…I don’t think they really are in touch with where the majority of Americans are at,” Moore said of the Trump campaign and its supporters. “The majority of Americans do not want this divisiveness; they don’t want a threat of violence.”

Moore pointed out that while Americans may disagree, they largely want a peaceful process and an end to political hostility. His message focused on the resilience of the American electorate and his belief in a large voter turnout. “Half the time, I have been very happy with who has won, and the other half of the time, I haven’t been. And we move on with our lives,” he said. “I think [MAGA supporters] are going to be very surprised…by what is going to happen on Tuesday.”

This confidence comes as Moore urges Democratic voters to take action in the final stretch of the election. His message of optimism was paired with a call to action, urging people to reach out to friends and family who may not typically vote. “Think of three people that maybe they know at work or school or whatever that aren’t going to vote,” Moore said, emphasizing the importance of community effort. “Drive them to the polls, take them to lunch afterwards, have a party after work, after you have taken the office to go vote.”

Despite his confidence, Moore stressed the importance of maintaining momentum, urging Democrats not to become complacent. “Our work isn’t done; we all have to make sure we get people to vote,” he said. “But having said that, I’m very optimistic and hopeful.”

In closing, Moore noted his “deep faith” in the American public to turn out in large numbers, echoing his belief that voters are ready to move beyond divisive politics. His remarks come at a time when many pundits are hesitant to predict the outcome, especially in such a polarized environment. For Moore, however, there is a clear sense of optimism as the nation heads into Election Day.
