Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has put Dominion Voting Systems on the map again after telling the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones recently that its machines were switching votes from Republican to Democratic. This is the charge that Donald Trump and his supporters have made after the 2020 election.
Greene appeared on InfoWars to talk about a voter in Whitfield County, Georgia who noticed the discrepancies after voting for both Greene and Donald Trump early. The voter claimed Dominion machine changed his or her vote to the Democratic candidates as they viewed their printed ballot, Greene said.
“They had to start over, and it went through several times… it kept switching the votes,” Greene told Jones. She indicated her intention to follow up on these allegations and expressed concern that such issues could unfairly flip the election toward Democrats.
Dominion Voting Equipment and Past Claims
Dominion Voting Systems has been the object of misinformation since the 2020 election, when a number of lawsuits allege the company used its vote counting to favor Democrats such as Joe Biden. Dozens of lawsuits were brought against the election outcome, but all of them were thrown out by courts on the basis of inadmissibility. These cases, often involving heavily Democratic races, were never fully argued, with some Republicans accusing “liberal judges” of endangering Democratic victories.
And despite all its supposed debunking, the claims persist. In particular, Dominion filed a defamation suit against Fox News and was awarded $787M settlement after Fox News reported voter fraud and vote swapping.
Election Lawsuits and Court Action.
After the 2020 election, Trump and his backers accused widespread voter fraud, and Dominion voting machines of flipped votes in critical swing states. Dozens of suits were brought in various states but none had strong enough evidence to be litigated. Many observers who criticize the court system point out that politically appointed judges decided these cases too soon and brushed aside allegations of voting rigging, ballot harvesting and illegal ballot counting as was caught on video in Fulton County.
Dominion was alleged to switch votes in 2020 and again in 2022, in which it received a similar accusation of tight races won by Democrats. Curiously, these claims never surfaced in races where Republicans won, further fueling the perception that Democrats were benefiting from these alleged manipulations .
Greene’s Charges Before 2024
By the 2024 election season, Greene’s new allegations of vote-switching via Dominion machines were part of a broader political concern among conservatives regarding election integrity, which continues to be a hot topic. Trump himself has continued to make allegations that the 2024 election is already being rigged against him with liberal judges throwing out election rules after voting has already begun.
Greene’s appearance on InfoWars and recent statements mean election security will be a big issue for many Republicans because they believe that battleground states haven’t done enough to address what they think was the problem with the 2020 and 2022 elections.
