A DHS official has been accused of spreading illegal immigration on social media, a report from the conservative think tank American Accountability Foundation (AAF) suggests. According to the report, Wilson Osorio, an associate attorney at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), has been making use of YouTube, TikTok and Instagram to provide advice and promote the benefits of illegal immigration.

Fox News Digital reached out to the DHS and USCIS to confirm Osorio’s employment and seek comment. After these inquiries, Osorio’s social media accounts were subsequently blocked, and his LinkedIn page was purportedly taken down.

Allegations from American Accountability Foundation

According to the AAF, which conducted the investigation, Osorio’s social media posts include conversations with illegal immigrants who tell success stories after they crossed the border into the U.S. In one video, a Honduran who came to the US about 20 years ago is shown running a successful restaurant earning over $1 million a year. The AAF translated several of Osorio’s videos, which seem to showcase the success stories of illegal immigrants in the world of money and prosperity, as if this were the American dream for illegal immigrants looking to enter the US illegally.

On another clip, a man apparently warns would-be illegal immigrants of the risks they’d take including smugglers and living in extreme desert conditions. Some of the videos feature the tagline: “In 3 years my daughters and I already have papers in the USA,” in which a woman discusses how having three daughters helped her avoid deportation and secure a work permit.

Other videos on Osorio’s websites talk about immigrants without papers who were able to work in construction and other jobs. In one video, Osorio gives illegal immigrant advice about subbing employers of a worker’s unpaid wages.

Criticisms and Calls for Action

The AAF ripped Osorio to shreds, insisting his social media postings were a “radical open borders agenda” that would undermine American security and stability. Thomas Jones, President of the AAF, incensed: “Even as he collects his taxpayer-funded salary, Osorio pushes his radical open borders agenda that is endangering the safety, stability, and livelihoods of millions of Americans. It is an utter betrayal of the American people. He must be fired immediately.”

Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) reacted to the report by condemning the act as a “severe breach of public confidence.” Lee linked the event to Biden administration policy in general, which he believes has contributed to the nation’s current immigration crisis.

Biden Administration’s Immigration Policies

Republicans have continuously criticized the Biden administration’s handling of immigration, particularly along the southern border of the US. Policies that have resulted in a wave of migrants, and the process that has followed them, have been contentious. The Osorio social media case adds to the underlying feeling that the administration is too soft on immigration enforcement, to the chagrin of its critics.

DHS Response

The allegations surrounding Osorio’s social media accounts have not been addressed by DHS as of yet. The case will no doubt raise more questions about how the immigration policies of the Biden administration are being implemented by federal officials and departments.
