The suspect responsible for the deadly attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early Wednesday has been identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old resident of Houston, Texas, Parler News has confirmed.
Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers, killing at least 10 people and injuring 35 others, before engaging in a shootout with police officers. He was fatally shot at the scene by law enforcement.
Weapons and Evidence Recovered
Authorities recovered a Glock handgun and a .308 caliber rifle equipped with optics and a sensor from the crime scene, according to a high-level source familiar with the investigation. An ISIS flag was also found inside the suspect’s pickup truck, adding a potential terrorism angle to the ongoing investigation.
The FBI has taken over the case, treating it as an act of terrorism. Law enforcement officials are now working to determine Jabbar’s affiliations, motives, and whether he acted alone or as part of a coordinated plot.
Additional Suspects Under Investigation
A source close to the investigation revealed that there are at least four to five other suspects believed to be involved in the attack. Authorities are pursuing leads and conducting raids in multiple locations to apprehend these individuals.
The discovery of the ISIS flag and the advanced weaponry has raised concerns about a broader network potentially linked to the incident. Investigators are examining Jabbar’s connections, both domestically and internationally.
Community and National Reactions
The attack has left the New Orleans community in mourning and sparked national outrage. Political leaders have condemned the violence and called for swift justice.
President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his earlier statement, calling the attack “an act of pure evil” and emphasizing the need for stronger national security measures. “This tragedy is a stark reminder of the threats we face. We will not rest until every individual involved is brought to justice,” Trump said.
Outgoing President Joe Biden also addressed the incident, offering federal resources to aid in the investigation. “The FBI and all relevant agencies are working tirelessly to uncover the truth and prevent further harm,” Biden said.
Ongoing Investigation
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The names and roles of the additional suspects are expected to be released as arrests are made.
New Orleans, a city known for its resilience, continues to grieve while standing united against this senseless act of violence. Vigils and memorials for the victims are being organized across the city.
