An ex-girlfriend of Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, has come forward with accusations of physical assault, alleging that Emhoff slapped her during an altercation in 2012. Speaking exclusively The Daily Mail, the woman, who requested anonymity, claims the incident took place while the two were attending an event during the Cannes Film Festival. She decided to go public after Emhoff, through a spokesperson, denied any wrongdoing and continued to portray himself as a feminist in public interviews.

The Allegation

The woman’s account describes an unsettling incident that allegedly occurred while they waited for a valet to retrieve their car. She says she slapped the valet’s shoulder and gave him a tip to get it done faster, and Emhoff attacked her, whipping her until she turned around. ‘“He slaps me so hard I spin around, and I’m in utter shock,” she recounted, adding that she immediately confronted him, to which Emhoff allegedly responded that he thought she was flirting with the valet.

“What’s frightening for a woman that’s been on the other end of it is watching this completely fabricated persona being portrayed,” the woman told The Daily Mail. “He’s being held out to be the antithesis of who he actually is.”

Supporting Witnesses

The woman’s testimony is supported by two friends she reported right after the purported incident, and a third friend she told in 2018. She doesn’t seem to have any interest in inventing the tale, her supporters counter, as she had reported on the information long before Emhoff’s political career had even started.

Past Allegations and Behavior

That’s not the only objectionable charge to Emhoff’s actions. Emhoff also betrayed his first wife with the family’s nanny whom he allegedly inseminated, said the accuser. The nanny went on to miscarry and Emhoff ‘paid her off through a nondisclosure agreement’, the accuser claims.

Moreover, several women (all named) who were co-workers with Emhoff in his Los Angeles law firm accused him of being sexist and misogynistic, that he employed women based on how they looked and killed those who refused his advances.

Media Denial and Political Impacts

Even though the charges are serious, the mass media has not said much about them, which critics say represents a double standard when it comes to accusations made against top Democrats. The charges against Emhoff resemble scandals from past politicians, but they haven’t got nearly the attention they received against Republicans like Brett Kavanaugh or Donald Trump.

Emhoff, who may one day become a “First Gentleman” if Kamala Harris becomes president, hasn’t commented on the allegations beyond his spokesperson’s denial.
